On Morne Bruce, a one-of-a-kind cannon continues to symbolically protect the people of Roseau, the capital of the Dominica located on the Caribbean Sea shore.
From this privileged observation point, the gaze travels from Woodbridge Bay, the port in which MSC cruise ships contribute to creating a pleasant holiday panorama, to the botanical gardens unfolding at the foot of the mountain itself.
Roseau, the most important and oldest settlement of the island, was a French outpost founded in the 16th century on the banks of the Roseau River. It is rich in atmosphere and French colonial style, and its original urban layout can still be seen in the Old Market area. Possible excursions into the surrounding hills are infinite; just choose the one that intrigues you the most. The greatest of them all is a six-hour or so ascent in hot and humid weather to the boiling lake.
