CRUISE & ITINERARY UPDATES

Our two flagships MSC Grandiosa and MSC Magnifica resumed operations in the Mediterranean, offering guests from Schengen countries full-experience cruise holidays. MSC Grandiosa started with a 7-nights cruise on August 16th, while MSC Magnifica will depart on October 19th, 2020.

The two ships are the first to implement a new operating protocol that has been designed to protect the health and safety of guests, crew as well as the local communities that the Company’s ships visit. For this reason, it meets and goes beyond guidelines provided by key international and regional regulatory and technical bodies, as well as regulations set forth by the governments in the countries in which MSC Cruises ships operate. Additionally, RINA, the independent maritime certification corporation, has verified that the protocol meets the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Guidance, which incorporates additional health standards including those from the EU Healthy Gateways Joint Action. We have worked to encompass every aspect of the guest’s journey, from the moment of booking to embarkation, life on board and through to the return back home, whilst preserving the uniqueness of the guest experience.

All guests booked on any MSC Cruises itinerary until October 31, 2020 can transfer their booking to either MSC Grandiosa or MSC Magnifica. For specific details, read the Mediterranean updates below.

Beyond these new summer itineraries, we are looking to perform additional cruises beyond 30 September following approval by the relevant national or regional authorities as well as in observance of their requirements.

In addition, we would like to inform that:

CANADA & NEW ENGLAND, MSC MERAVIGLIA CRUISES - Announcement June 24th, 2020

Due to the decision of the Government of Canada to prohibit cruise ships carrying more than 100 people from operating in Canadian waters until October 31, 2020, MSC Cruises made the difficult decision to cancel our three 10-night sailings on MSC Meraviglia from New York to Canada & New England as well as the two repositioning cruises from Northern Europe to New York and from New York to Miami.

  • To find out more on our compensation Policy, please click here.

MSC Grandiosa started with a 7-days cruise on August 16th, while MSC Magnifica will depart on October 19th, 2020 with a 10-days cruise.

I cancelled my cruise right before MSC Cruises communicated the cancellation decision. Will the same policy apply?

The compensation packages listed in the table above apply only to the cancelled cruises originated by MSC Cruises in relation with the COVID-19 situation worldwide.

What will be the value of the Future Cruise Credit voucher?

For all bookings related to cancelled cruises, MSC Cruises will issue a voucher with a value equal to the amount already paid to MSC Cruises, net of refunds, and will include the Ship board credit granted as a compensation for the cancelled cruise.

For bookings confirmed but not yet paid, MSC Cruises will issue a voucher with a value equal to the ship board credit granted as a compensation for the cancelled cruises. The voucher will be sent anyway, however, no future cruise credit will be shown as no payment has been received from MSC.

How and when will the Future Cruise Credit voucher be issued? Will it be sent to me?

You will receive the Future Cruise Credit voucher for each booking which sailing has been cancelled by MSC Cruises. The vouchers will be emailed directly to you, detailing the relevant booking number and booking conditions. This voucher will enable you to reschedule the future cruise, for any departure on or before December 31, 2021.. Vouchers will be sent within one month from the official communication of the cruise cancellation. If you booked through a travel agency, the voucher will be sent directly to the Travel Agent.

What happens if I want to book a more expensive cruise than the voucher value? Or a less expensive cruise?

If the future booking is of higher value than the original one, you will have to pay the difference. If the future booking is of less value than the original one, you will have the opportunity to add-on packages to your future cruise (beverage packages, Excursions, etc…) and leverage the voucher value for such usage up until it is fully spent.

Will the Future Cruise Credit be combinable with any promotion, including special rates and groups?

The Future Cruise Credit functions like a currency so it can be combined with any promotion, or used for confirming a booking as part of a group. For MSC Voyagers Club members, it can also be combined with our MSC Voyages selection departures.

What is this additional ship board credit? How can it be used?

The Ship Board credit is a benefit which MSC Cruises grants as an additional benefit to its guests for their cancelled cruise. It can be used only once you start your new cruise but cannot be used for the purchase of pre-paid items before the new cruise. If not entirely spent, this ship board credit will be refunded at the end of the new cruise.

I have booked a Caribbean Cruise departing before October 31st. What happens to my booking?

We confirmed the voluntarily further extension of the halt of operations of our ships operating from U.S. ports in the Caribbean until September 30, 2020. The announcement impacts two ships, MSC Seaside and MSC Armonia, that were previously scheduled to sail in the region during this time period. Guests affected by the cancelled cruises will receive a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) by August 31st, where they have the opportunity to transfer the full amount paid for their cancelled cruise to a future cruise of their choice – on any ship, for any itinerary -- through to the end of 2021.

For any other information please contact our Contact center.

Are there specific commercial conditions which I should be aware of, before confirming my cruise this summer?

With the aim to protect passenger’s health, reduce its risk of infection while ashore and make sure that every aspect of the passenger’s experience during an excursion is fully in line with the on-board standards of health and hygiene, getting off the ship during a port call is permitted only in a context of a Shore Excursion organized by MSC Cruises. The Company reserves the right not to admit on board any Passenger who disembarked the ship on its own in breach of the above rule. When ashore, Passengers are required to strictly adhere to the measures adopted by the tour guide and prescribed by the local Authorities.

I was booked on a ship which won’t sail this summer. If they decide to confirm my cruise on board MSC Grandiosa or MSC Magnifica, do I need to pay for any price difference?

For all guests previously booked on other ships and who will accept to cruise on board MSC Grandiosa or MSC Magnifica (MSC Magnifica starting from September 26th),  the new price difference will be applied. If the new cruise rate is higher than the original one, guests will need to pay the difference. In case the new cruise rate is lower, the difference will be refunded (for bookings paid in full). For all guests whose MSC Magnifica cruise until September 25th has been cancelled and that accepted to be transferred onboard MSC Grandiosa, no price difference will be applied to the cruise fare.

To benefit from reprotection plan please contact our Contact Centre.

I want to book a new cruise on MSC Grandiosa or MSC Magnifica. What benefits am I entitled to?

Passengers travelling from Schengen countries can book their MSC Grandiosa or MSC Magnifica cruise at two different pricings:

-  “Cruise only” fare - price will include cruise only and up to 3 excursions depending on the cabin booked
“ Welcome back” fare - price will include 3 excursions at a promotional price of 100€ plus 1 complimentary excursion (adults only).

Guests can select their tours, change them, upgrade them, add more shore excursions or add complimentary tours for their children by calling our Customer Service Center or they can contact the Shore Excursions Team once on board.

Do you apply a limitation in terms of nationalities accepted on board? How do you define this selection? What happens to those clients booked but which nationalities is not accepted on board?

For MSC Grandiosa and MSC Magnifica sailings (starting in Summer 2020), we will initially only welcome guests who are residents in the 26 European Schengen countries (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain Sweden and Switzerland).

In light of a new ruling by the Italian Ministry of Health that came into place as of 13 August, MSC Cruises confirmed that in addition to the health and safety protocol developed by the Company, all guests that go ashore in Malta or Greece - while taking advantage of the "protected" shore excursions- will undergo an antigen swab test before the return of the ship to Italy. This is in addition to the test that is done prior to embarkation and this testing will be covered by MSC Cruises. This will be implemented on MSC Grandiosa and MSC Magnifica until 7 October.

Moreover, any guest travelling from any of the countries that are deemed “high risk” by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) will need to take an RT-PCR swab test within 72 hours prior to the ship’s departure. The test results will need to be presented at the terminal prior to embarkation. The list of high-risk countries is available here. Our guests are kindly invited to regularly check the list for the latest updates.
Additional travel restrictions for certain nationalities or even particular regions in a country may arise based on the COVID-19 situation. These clients not accepted onboard, will be eligible for a Future Cruise Credit (FCC) plus an on-board credit benefit (to be adapted according to the conditions granted in each market) that can be used to transfer any such bookings at no cost, to any ship with any itinerary in the MSC Cruises fleet sailing through to December 2021.

What if I am unsure about my new date of cruising?

You can choose your next cruise date when you are ready. The Future Cruise Credit can be applied to any sailing departing on or before December 31, 2021. The Future Cruise Credit is non-transferable, non-refundable

Is it possible to extend the validity of the Future Cruise Credit voucher?

No, the voucher’s validity is non-extendable. It must be used for any future sailings departing before/on December 31, 2021. If not used, the voucher expires.

Can I give my voucher to another person who wants to book ?

No. The Future Cruise Credit voucher is related to each specific booking which original sailing has been cancelled by MSC Cruises. It cannot be transferred. For vouchers related to groups, a voucher will be issued and sent to the travel agency.

Can I use the voucher for multiple cruises?

No, the Future Cruise credit can be redeemed only once. If the new booking is cheaper than the original one, you will have the opportunity to add-on prepaid packages (beverage packages, excursions, etc…) and leverage the voucher value for such usage.

Once I decide when to schedule my next cruise, how should I proceed to redeem the voucher?

For redeeming the voucher, you have 2 options:

1.  If you booked directly with MSC through our consumer website or through our contact centre, you can fill out the form here or get in touch with our contact center. Be ready to provide your original booking number, as well as the new cruise date for the future cruise reschedule.

2. If you booked through a travel agency, please get in touch directly with your travel agent. Be ready to provide your initial booking number as well as the new cruise date you’ve chosen.

Please consider that MSC Cruises is currently facing a high demand of requests. This might cause a delay in our standard services. We apologize for any inconvenience it may cause and thank you for your patience.

What happens to purchased pre-cruise items on a sailing that is now cancelled (ex. Shore excursions, spa, drink packages, etc.)?

If you booked your pre-paid items directly through the website or through our contact centre, the entire amount paid will be refunded on the original form of payment. The amount refunded will not be included in the Future Cruise voucher. Please note that exceptions ay apply by country. If your booking was made through a Travel Agency, please contact your travel agent.

What if I have a Cruise & Fly package booked through MSC Cruises? Will it be included in the voucher value?

Flight and transfers will be included as part of the Future Cruise credit, if booked through MSC Cruises. For example, if the cruise fare is USD/€500, and the flight is USD/€300 and transfer USD/€100 guests will receive total Future Cruise credit of USD/€900. For flights and transfers booked independently from MSC Cruises, this must be checked directly with the relevant service provider.

If I was originally traveling with a friend, and at the time of re-booking he/she doesn't want to travel, will he/she get a refund?

The full value of the Future Cruise Credit will apply to the future booking. MSC will not provide several vouchers related to 1 single original booking.

Does the voucher issue also apply to groups?

For groups bookings for which MSC Cruises has already been fully or partially paid, the Future Cruise Credit voucher will be issued and sent to the travel agency, for the same amount initially paid net of any amount refunded. No individual voucher will be generated for group bookings. For groups confirmed but not booked, no voucher will be issued. For more information please contact your Travel agent.
